Mangroves are nature’s quiet protectors. These unique coastal forests act as natural barriers, shielding communities from storm surges and coastal erosion, while also serving as powerful carbon sinks that help combat climate change. Beyond these climate benefits, mangroves are biodiversity hotspots, providing critical habitats for countless species of birds, fish, and other wildlife. Yet these vital ecosystems are under threat. Deforestation, pollution, rapid coastal development, and climate change are placing immense pressure on mangrove forests worldwide.
To raise awareness and drive conservation efforts, the Muddy Mangrove Monitoring activity at Jubail Park offers participants a rare opportunity to connect with nature whilst making a real impact. From wading knee-deep through the muddy roots of thriving mangroves to carefully measuring the growth of young saplings, participants will actively take part in monitoring the health of the mangrove ecosystem. This hands-on citizen science initiative focuses on:
This immersive experience, led by Emirates Nature-WWF’s Leaders of Change programme, is designed to inspire a deeper appreciation of the interconnectedness of ecosystems and the importance of protecting them. It’s not just an activity, it’s a step towards securing a healthier, more resilient planet.
Be part of this conservation journey. Step into the mangroves, get your hands muddy, and help safeguard these coastal guardians for generations to come.
