Save animals by collecting tiny plastic pieces on the shore!
It’s not just finished plastic products like bottles that harm our seas – plastics are polluting marine environments even before they become the objects we all recognise. Nurdles are pre-production plastic pellets – the raw material used to make almost all plastic products. For example, around 600–1,200 nurdles are melted and moulded to create a single plastic water bottle. They may sound harmless, but these tiny pellets are the second largest source of microplastic pollution (by weight) found on beaches worldwide. Alarmingly, nurdles are often mistaken for food by marine wildlife, with devastating consequences.
In this hands-on activity, participants will comb the sandy shores to collect as many nurdles as possible. This effort not only removes harmful pollutants from the environment but also raises awareness of this often-overlooked aspect of plastic pollution.
Emirates Nature-WWF is proud to lead this community initiative through our Leaders of Change programme — join us at Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas to make a difference, together. Be part of the nurdle hunt and help protect our oceans and wildlife from plastic pollution.
